(Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Book 2 of 7) by Vawn Cassidy.

It’s been over six months since a freak accident left pathologist Tristan Everett able to see ghosts, something he has yet to confess to his boyfriend. Instead, he now has a new calling, one he’s not entirely happy about… help the dead resolve their unfinished business so they can pass into the light, sounds simple right

Wrong…

When the spirit of a sweet old lady suffering from Alzheimers follows him home he has no idea how to help her. When he finds out she’s been murdered by arsenic poisoning, a curiously outdated murder weapon, he once again finds himself tangled up in a murder investigation.

For Inspector Danny Hayes of New Scotland Yard, life couldn’t be better. After moving to London and meeting Tristan he’s ready to move their relationship to the next level, but something weird is going on with Tristan, he’s acting very strangely and with a killer on the loose he’s not taking any chances. He’s determined to discover whatever it is Tristan’s hiding from him.

Surrounded by a bunch of potentially murderous old ladies and aided by his sidekick, deceased drag queen and spirit guide in training, Dusty, Tristan must unravel the mystery of Mrs Delores Abernathy’s unfinished business and find the courage to share his deepest secret with the man he loves.

Eeeek! Tristan and Danny are back at it again! Somehow Tristan is thrown back into helping someone with their unfinished business, but this particular case is going to be a little more difficult than the last...considering dear Ms. Abernathy doesn't speak at all (Dusty makes up for all the silence, of course).

And then we have poor Danny, still in the dark about Tristan's abilities, and getting more confused by the day by his odd behavior. Will Tristan ever come clean to Danny about his new gifts? Hopefully, because the poor guy is just perplexed and a little worried.

Our favorite side characters are back as well. I absolutely adore Dusty and Chan's dynamic!

I read this book in one sitting, and I’m sure there will be many rereads in my future! Hilarious, with an actual plot, and of course some steamy scenes that give just the right amount spark of romance/dirty deeds!

Just as the first book. Sweet, beautiful, amazing. Yes, death and loss are always sad and painful, but the way they're written... To me personally, it was a heartwarming story I loved dearly.

Definitely a very good series!
Tristan and Danny are continuing their #couplegoals romance, Dusty is also still her fabulous self :)
While Tris is visiting his dad at the care home, he 'meets' the ghost of Mrs. Abernathy and quickly finds out that her death was not natural.
While Tris, Danny work on solving that mystery, Dusty and Tris become very, very close, lol - you have to read it to find out how (there's no cheating!).
Enjoyed how the relationship with Danny is growing stronger - Tris just had to tell him that he can see/talk to ghosts - and that went well.
There is a lot that goes on in this story, some of it to establish the various relationships (romantic and familial) and some to lay the groundwork for the very excellent books that come after.
It's a smashing series and overall, a fun sequel!

Tristan can still see ghosts. Dusty is still his spirit guide in training. And together they are still absolutely, gloriously disastrous at solving murders.

Dead Serious Case #2: Mrs Delores Abernathy follows the duo as they investigate the arsenic poisoning of a sweet little old lady whose ghost cannot clearly communicate her unfinished business and will not stop trying to hand people her handbag.

Joining the chaos is Sam Stone, Danny's old friend, former detective, and now a PI carrying the scars of a homophobic attack that ended his police career.

And then Dusty accidentally takes over Tristan's body and they end up sharing it, and it takes a prickly red-haired witch named Harrison Ames and a well-placed lightning bolt to sort the whole mess out.

Vawn Cassidy has a gift for making you howl laughing on one page and quietly tear up on the next. The humour is sharp and relentless Yet every ridiculous moment is wrapped around characters you genuinely care about.

Tight pacing, real heart, and a body swap arc worth the price of admission alone.

Dead Serious Case #2 Mrs Delores Abernathy is the second book in the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed series. We are back with Tristan,Danny, and Dusty for a new case. In my opinion this series is best read in order. I love the characters and world building that went into this series. It was so great watching Tristan and Danny's relationship grow and become stronger. The chemistry these two is perfect. I love how well all the characters are written, they feel so real. The case itself was interesting because of the twists and turns it took. I couldn't put this book down once I started it because I needed to see what would happen next. I can't say much more about the story because I don't want to give any spoilers. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

4.5 stars. Part two of a delightfully quirky series. Tristan and Dusty are trailed by a ghost who doesn't really communicate, having severe dementia before being poisoned. Danny is investigating the same case. There is an introduction of several new characters, and I hope that Sam and the magician will feature more in future books. The series is going to take an even more supernatural turn in the next book, which sounds very promising.

God, do I love this story. I’ve read this book three times, and I can tell you it’s a hit every single time I read it. I enjoy this book so much that I feel like I could reread it again tomorrow and still enjoy every single thing about it.

The mystery behind Mrs. Abernathy’s death, the hijinks Dusty and Tristan get up to, and the introduction of Harrison and Sam make this story so worth it. Danny and Tristan’s relationship, without fail, makes me want one of my own exactly like theirs. The way they trust each other, the way they are there for each other, and the way they are each others person makes me hope to find something like this some day and also, maybe a little bit, makes me squeal inside at their sweet moments.

Even though I’ve read it three times and I know what’s going to happen, I still get chills everything single time they unravel the mystery of who murdered Mrs. Abernathy and what her unfinished business is. This book and this series will always be a favorite, I could not have enjoyed it more.

I love this sequel and you have to read the books in order to really understand this one. Tristanis starting to get used to his new abilities and also his relationship with Danny is now firmly set up.

The book is definitely funny, there are so many bits and pieces in there which makes it a very enjoyable reading.

They are basically two parts in this book, the mystery behind who killed poor Mrs. Abernathy and why and the reasons she needed help to pass over.

The first one was a bit weak, but it definitely gave us plenty of enjoyable situations and it also showed the ongoing relationship between Danni and Tristan. I was a bit disappointed how uneventful the actual solving of the case was. It was very interesting, but I would've loved a bit more build-up.

The second part, searching for Mrs Abernathy's unfinished business, was really sweet. How do you solve a problem when your ghost has dementia? There were so much laughter in this part. Tristan is a great medium for this, he really was invested trying to figure out what was going on.

I also love how his action with his dad was shown, I think the author is writing a clear and realistic picture of having a family member was Alzheimer or dementia but also includes the good parts, the good days and how to show the love between the family.

We also got introduced to 2 new characters which will pop up again in further books and a very mysterious one. This serious is highly commanded.

The second book in the "Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed" series does not disappoint! This books is as filled with humor, charm and sweetness as the first book with new characters, hijinks and shenanigans. There is a bit more steam in this book compared to the first book but it's not too much and seems appropriate for the book and the characters.

There are some things in this book, like the first, that hit straight to the heart. The blurb does say that there is a character living with Alzheimer's Disease and it is a big part of this book. The author handles this in a fairly sensitive way and in a way that is very familiar for those that have experience with the various dementia diseases. There is snark as characters learn to relate and there is understanding and caring as they start to know this character as they were before the disease progressed.

It is amazing that this book and the previous one can be full humor, snark/sass, steam, charm, movie references, while also being full of heart that can make laughter turn into tears when those feeling get tugged. I cannot wait for the next book in the series because I need to see the evolution of everyone and everything in this book plus, that darned Epilogue!

This second book is even better than the first and that is saying something! Pretty sure I laughed, smiled and swooned a bit the entire book. That is not say there is not a good mystery full of creepy ghostliness as well! Tristan is absolutely adorable, and his newfound abilities are growing. Poor Danny our protective detective cannot seem to keep Tristan from getting into trouble! I was so happy that along with all the humor and adventure this story also progressed the relationship with Tristan and Danny. We even get time for some love making! I cannot wait for more adventures with Tristan, Danny and of course Dusty. This series is a whole lot of fun with a whole lot of heart!

4.5 stars for a wonderful sequel to the first Dead Serious Case! Cassidy continues the journey of Tristan and Danny and Dusty because I think of Dusty as a MC. Tristan still is worried about when and how to tell Danny about his ability which leads to a fabulous scene involving Dusty, Mrs. Abernathy and sofa pillows. Danny really wants to ask Tristan to move in with him. All of this is woven into the mystery of who killed Mrs. Abernathy and why she has not "passed over". We also get an incredible poignant scene with Dusty and Chan due to a slight mishap (again Tristan really needs to tell Danny!) But you also have to think what you do if you found yourself in Dusty's situation. We are also introduced to Danny's friend from his previous job, Sam, who now needs his HEA. Mmm, maybe with Harrison the witch? And least we forget Bruce, Vivienne and Evangeline also make an appearance. In the middle of all the snooping, solving, sexing, etc in this wonderful world, Cassidy gives us a tender moment with Danny and Tristan's dad. And I cried over Mrs. Abernathy getting her HEA. But holy cow, what a setup for the next adventure!

Vawn is building a brilliant series here with the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed and book two stands up very well to the exceptional book 1 in the series.
Book two brings us more Dusty and she is once again a pure delight. The complexity of the characters deepen and this case is even more tricky to solve. But the journey is full of fun (I may have burst out laughing at one point and scared the cat) with some tender hearted moments thrown in as well.
If you like your books to have a solid plot with well written dialogue as the key features with some steam thrown in for seasoning, this series is definitely for you.

Tristan certainly has an awful lot on his plate with this latest adventure so lucky he has Dusty along for the ride. Danny does his bit investigating the murder by the usual means as Tristan seeks assistance from his ghostly companions. Chan also makes a quick appearance just so she can watch and enjoy the spectacle!

There’s a wonderful balance of solving the murder/unfinished business of the victim Delores and the continuing sweet romance between Tristan and Danny. They even manage to fit in some steamy times amongst all the going’s on and agree, after a teeny tiny dash of insecurity for them both, to move onto the next step in their relationship.

I loved this book from start to end. It had me laughing out loud and also have my heart some feels.
We’re treated to a morsel of what’s to come in the next book and i can’t wait for it!
