I loved being able to get this collection of shorts that give us a little more of a view into some of the moments mentioned in the main books.

You definitely don't want to skip out on this book! It really does tie some things together, answer a few questions, and give you some good laughs!

Out of all of them, I think Danny's experience with Death was my absolute favorite!

A heartfelt and entertaining bonus collection that blends humor, emotion, and imaginative worldbuilding.

Dead Serious: Just the Extras delivers strong character-driven storytelling, with standout moments like Dusty’s emotional reconciliation with his father and his reunion with his mother. These scenes add real depth and closure to the series.

The writing is witty and engaging, with a distinct voice that keeps the tone light even when exploring heavier themes like grief and identity. The afterlife setting is creative and unique, offering a fresh take on Heaven without being overly complex.

As a bonus collection, some stories feel shorter or less developed than a full novel, but they still add meaningful insight into the characters and their journeys.

Overall, this is a great addition for fans of the series and a solid read for anyone who enjoys emotional, character-focused stories with humor and heart.

I’m new to Vawn Cassidy’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this collection of bonus shorts and thought that it was a good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. Each short in this collection has been reviewed separately. Good collection of stories that I couldn’t put down.

Made it Heaven - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - I really enjoyed this short and thought that it was another good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this magical new world that Vawn has created. I loved seeing Dusty’s transition to heaven and what happened until he got to return as a spirit guide in training for Tristan. This whole short just made me smile.

The Three Ghosts of Christmas - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - I really enjoyed this short and thought that it was a good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this magical new world that Vawn has created. During this short Tristan gets visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future who give him some more insight into his gifts with seeing the spiritual world. I liked getting more of him and Danny & Chan is always a delight.

El Dia del Amor - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - I really enjoyed this short and thought that it was another good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this magical new world that Vawn has created. Poor Dusty is sad because everyone that he cares about is moving on but I’m so glad that he and Bruce found each other, as I think that they’re great together. Bruce takes Dusty to spend time with his family in Tierra de los Muertos, the Land of the Dead. This whole short made me smile. It was heartbreaking hearing about the reason why Bruce stays in the human realm and I can’t wait for Dusty, Tristan & Danny to help him, so he can finally have a choice of what to do with the rest of his afterlife.

Danny, Meet Death - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️- I really enjoyed this short and thought that it was another good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this magical new world that Vawn has created. During this short Danny takes a little trip with Death, where Death shows him the world the way that Tristan now does, now that Tristan is able to see spirts. I loved that Danny got to see Dusty in all her glory.

The Double Date - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - I really enjoyed this short and thought that it was another good addition to the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Series. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this magical new world that Vawn has created. During this short both Danny & Tristan invite their friends, Danny’s former colleague from the police force up north and Tristan’s new witch friend Harrison, well Harrison doesn’t want friends but he’s sh*t out of luck lol to dinner so it’s accidentally turns into a double date. Even if their evening got cut short, it was obvious something is brewing between Harrison & Sam but only time will tell.

I’m looking forward to reading more from this series, as well as more books from Vawn Cassidy in the future. I’d definitely recommend this collection, each bonus short, series and author to everyone.

I loved that we got not only Danny and Tristan but also some fun moments with Dusty and Bruce and Sam and Harrison! I will say I felt like there was some new info in these books that help with the main storyline so these are not to be missed for lovers of the series!!

Dead Serious Just the Extras is a group of short stories set in the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed series. The short stories are Made in Heaven, The Three Ghosts of Christmas, El Dia del Amor, Danny, Meet Death, and The Double Date. These stories are fun to read. They could have been put into the books but I'm glad we get to read them. This is a great collection mostly featuring some of the other characters in the series. I really enjoyed all the stories. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Dead Serious Just the Extras Vol. 1 contains several short stories set in the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed world. These stories are fun glimpses into the lives (or afterlives) of the characters and are a real treat. The stories can be emotional so have some tissues ready since you may tear up from humor or from sadness. The books take your emotions on a rollercoaster ride, but it’s so worth it. These stories shouldn’t be read on their own. There are too many previous characters and events that would make the stories confusing to understand. Anyway, the main series is incredible and I highly recommend reading it, the spin-offs, and other books of related short stories.

Made in Heaven
This is a story that packs an emotional punch. From the POV of Dusty it showcases the events that happen after the conclusion of the first book. I teared up and I smiled during this one. It is full of all the feels but also the charm and sass that is Dusty, as she makes some important decisions.

The Three Ghosts of Christmas
As the title of this suggests, Tristan gets a Christmas Eve to rival Ebenezer Scrooge. However, his ghostly visitors are more personal, heartfelt, and humorous. Tristan is taken on a journey that shows him snippets of his past, present and future. This is one to have tissues handy for.

El Dia del Amor
This story features Dusty and Bruce. Dusty is struggling with her afterlife and Bruce steps in to show her that more is possible. This one starts out melancholy, but still has humor, heat and romance.

Danny, Meet Death
Danny and Death have a chat. This is short, has humor and is sweet. Danny really is perfect for Tristan.

The Double Date
This is the first meeting of Harrison and Sam. It is an intense meeting and unpredictable things happen. Their story has been a fun one to follow through the main series and I’m glad they have their own series/books.

I love all these extra glimpses into this world.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Just the Extras is an excellent look into various characters and circumstances of the Dead Serious series. Each story is short, but they are full of information and emotion, and the unique effect that death has on them all.
#1 Made in Heaven
This story of Dusty’s trip to heaven made me cry like a baby. At one point, it felt like my heart was being twisted into a shape it wasn’t intended to squeeze into. But then the author reshaped it into the form it’s meant to be, with lots of humor and heartwarming love.
#2 El Dia del Amor
It was wonderful to watch Bruce allow Dusty to experience the unexpected extras that he wanted her to know about. The time these two spent there is sexy and touching, and I love how much closer they became because of it.
#3 Danny, Meet Death
I’ve always loved Danny, and this short read only made me love him more. It’s beautiful to see his ever-growing love for Tristan and his acceptance of life as Tris knows it.
#4 The Double Date
I found this to be a funny, sexy, and a little bit creepy look into what Sam and Harrison have to look forward to in their spinoff series.
Just the Extras is a short read that gave me many, many feels. I love it and will reread it every time I reread the other books in this world.
I look forward to more from this author.

Loved These Extras

I absolutely loved these extra stories. They give us a look into the in-between spots of the main stories. This is a definite must read for anyone who loves this series.

These are five wonderful stories that are just a little extra for Danny and Tristan, one of my favorite couples ever. The first "Made in Heaven" is some closure for Dusty, enough to move on. But when he gets to Heaven, he decides to become a spirit guide in training and go back to help Tristan. There's a lovely Christmas, Dusty and Bruce's corporeal night and Danny meeting Death. Add to that Sam meeting Harrison. These awesome shorts give us the readers a little more of the delight that is Dusty , chances to enjoy more Dead Serious, a world I love. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.

This is a lovely collection of little snippets of our favourite characters.
If you always wanted to know what happens when Dusty leaves earth before she comes back or how Tristan is dealing with his newly acquired abilities or how Dusty and Bruce are starting to become more than just a hook up - then this book is definitely for you. I thoroughly enjoyed getting a bit more information and behind the scenes insights about these characters who are some of my favourites.

I especially loved Tristan's three ghosts of Christmas story. It shows how Tristan is dealing with seeing ghosts and also gives a bit of a view into his past and his relationship as his parents.

El Dia de Amore is a really great story about how Dusty is settling in after the first excitement of being a ghost and what she can now do. She has to learn to accept that life goes on without her but Bruce is now at her side and his weird and wonderful family. It is such a great story of how she can then move on herself, it's not just a living who have to move on.

I do hope we see more of these little extra books.

These are all brilliant extra snippets and insights into what is also a fabulous main series! Any extra time with Dusty, Tristan and the gang is time well spent in my opinion. I enjoyed all the stories and found some very emotional but my favourite two were El Dia del Amor and The Double Date. I loved the relationship development between Dusty and Bruce in El Dia del Amor; it was great to learn more of his background and see such passion and humour alongside a difficult adjustment for Dusty. I also loved The Double Date because it gave me such a wonderful glimpse into Harrison and Sam's start and the chemistry and potential of the two. Overall, it's a great collection of short stories that enhance the characters and storytelling even further!

I grabbed these for the extra humor and little side stories. And that is all there, but my favorite thing about these extras was they actually added a bit more to the over story and characters. I also adored being able to get some extra POV's. I felt more a part of those characters getting to experience that!

I love seeing what some of my favourite characters are up to in these “behind the scenes extras” shorts. This mix of extras provide a lovely mix of laughter and feels, fun and serious with some cute moments and scenes that share important insights. Bruce and Dusty, Tristan and Danny along with Sam and Harrison provide plenty of entertainment and Death even pops in for a visit and I can’t forget Chan!
I cannot recommend this highly enough and it’s a wonderful addition to the Crawshanks series.
