(Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Book 4 of 7) by Vawn Cassidy.

Inspector Danny Hayes has something very important to ask his boyfriend Tristan Everett. Over the past six months they’ve survived reapers, chaos monsters, and biblical storms, not to mention averting an apocalypse. So, what’s left to do but pop the big question?

Tristan is ready for a break from world-saving, spectral crises, and most definitely from ghosts. He wants some one-on-one time with his boyfriend, preferably horizontally. So when their Boxing Day celebrations result in a drunken booking of a romantic New Year’s getaway at a quiet little hotel near the wilds of the north Yorkshire moors, Tristan can’t wait.

But as usual nothing ever goes according to plan. Snowed in during an unexpected murder mystery weekend at what turns out to be one of the most haunted hotels in Northern England is not what they had in mind, but when one of the actors turns up really dead not just fake dead, they once again find themselves caught up in another investigation.

With only one night to figure out who the killer is while wrangling a multitude of overly helpful ghosts, Tristan begins to wonder if romance really is dead…

I have never laughed so hard at a book in my life. Seriously, 5/5 Stars.

Dusty, as always, is a riot in this book. All her “congrats attempts” are absolutely over the top and so her! Especially because she’s about as subtle as a Mariachi band.

This books ghostly issues were different than we’ve seen previously. Danny and Tris have run away to the mysterious Ashton-Drake hotel, and end up at a Murder Mystery event themed weekend and are dragged into participating. This gave the book the vibe of playing a game of Clue, if Clue had paranormal activity, a zillion ghosts, a weird acting troupe, and Dusty popping in and out at the weirdest of times.

Danny also gets the chance to clear the air with some of his family. He desperately needed the closure, and having Tris by his side to support him made all the difference.

As they solve their whodunit mystery, we get a shock at the end that has me on edge, and I neeeeedddd to know what happens next. On to book 5!

Another Absolutely Brilliant edition to this Fantastic series by Vawn Cassidy I can't get enough of these guys love them so much and you're in for another amazing murder mystery when Tristan & Danny take a well earned break at a hotel just the two of them but murder and ghosts soon turn up and it's simply an amazing story and I love all the new characters who turn up simply outstanding series recommend so much.

A little bit disappointed there weren't more chapters from Danny's point of view, and a felt a bit shorter than the rest for some reason, to me at least. But it's still just as awesome as the others, and gods I hope there gonna be many more books from this series. After all, sadly, crimes never end, so I doubt ghosts will disappear. There isn't always need for a huge thing happening alongside murder, like in the 3rd book. All the books are just so incredible to me. I've finally found an awesome series with romance and ghosts that's actually truly awesome and I really hope there will be many more books in the series

***Spoliers ahead****

I’ve have read other books with this premise and these will forever be my favorites. Tristan and Danny’s relationship still makes me wish to have one just like theirs. They are so sweet with each other and always there for each through thick and thin. Especially when dealing with the difficulties surrounding their families. I also love the way Tristan was there for Danny when he was facing his family. He let Danny take the lead, but was still there for him as need be and didn’t let any of the siblings give him shit for his job or for Danny being with a man. I really really loved his mom finally saying something, I do think it took a little too long, but she said something when it mattered most and Danny sees that he has her to count on.

I also loved the way Danny had been trying to propose pretty much the whole time and whenever he even got close, like dropping down to one knee in the snow, it never registered in Tristan that he was proposing just that he might have lost something. Tristan is so smart but so oblivious and I love it! I enjoyed this book a lot and the way Professor died was not something I saw coming!

4.5 stars. Episode four of this very good series. Tristan and Danny wind up spending a weekend at a hotel, hoping to get away from their usual surroundings full of ghosts, murders and supernatural happenings. As is to be expected (as they will never get a break), there is a death among the guests and a whole house full of rambunctious spirits. I found the communication between Tristan and Danny particularly heartfelt in this book.

Okay so. Dead Serious Case #4 Professor Prometheus Plume by Vawn Cassidy just absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible.

Tristan and Danny deserve ONE peaceful romantic weekend. They do not get it. what they get instead: a haunted manor hotel staffed by about four people, a murder mystery weekend, an actual murder, a ghost with a double-barrelled shotgun, and a dead tennis instructor who died on swedish meatballs in 1954 and will not stop flirting with Danny.

But here's the thing — Vawn Cassidy does something really special with the comedy. It never undermines the emotional core. Danny's family reunion in Leeds is raw and honest and his mum's moment of finally standing up for her kids?? I needed that. And Tristan's love for his father, watching him decline, still finding ways to hold on to him — it quietly breaks your heart.

And the engagement. I will not spoil the exact circumstances.

The cliffhanger ending has set me up PERFECTLY for Case #5 and I am both excited and devastated.

Dead Serious Case #4 is the fourth book in the Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed series. This book is not a standalone and should be read in series order. This is about an established couple, Danny a detective and Tristan who can see ghosts. The guys just want some time alone without being interrupted. You know chaos is going to find them. I love the way Vawn Cassidy brings the characters to life. This is another amazing story in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed has become one of my favorite series. The fourth book continues the evolution of Tristan and Danny and their wild, fun and not always corporeal group of friends.

I love Tristan and Danny together. Even with all the zany things that happen and characters they must deal with, they stand together. The way they are written make them feel like they could be real people, with real world responsibilities and lives. The characters truly love each other and have a hard won relationship that has had to survive some outrageous events. Which includes the OTT ghostly fun found in this book.

This book has that feeling of a series that might start winding down, but, that ending makes me think that the ending of this tale will be another rollercoaster ride of fun, humor and excitement. I can't wait for more Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed Books.

What a rollercoaster of disasters.

These books need to be read in order to not only understand Tristan and Danny but also their crazy found family and the backstory for Tristan and Danny.

This one is more comedy than supernatural world rescuing we had in the last book. And to be fair, these two deserve the break - but obviously nothing goes as planned.

If you know the BBC series Ghost, you can think what the heck will happen at the Murder Mystery Night our two main characters end up joining.

It's lovely to see their relationship developing and deepening. Both are there for the other when it comes to dealing with their private lives and problems. While Tristan is still worried that the whole ghost thing will cause Danny to come to his senses and run, nothing is further from the truth, Danny is even more committed than ever.

The actual murder mystery bit feels a bit rushed but the reveal was definitely not something I would have thought about.

There is a slight cliffhanger about how the next story will start. I can't wait for case no. 5

First, ignore the cliffhanger. We know that there is an overarching story and we also don't want the series to end, (at least I don't). So story arc cliffie = good thing!
Plus, this episode of their chaotic life has a complete ending, OK?
The series continues to keep me invested, and with the addition of new found family members - Death, Aidan, Sol (the puppy). There is so much to keep one happily immersed in Tris, Danny lives and Dusty's afterlife, lol!
Great continuation of the series with a lot of humour, heart and a tiny bit of bittersweetness.
I am really looking forward to the next book!!

I always enjoy going along on an adventure with these guys and all their found family and friends. Things never turn out as planned. This time they end up in the middle of an actual murder mystery! I do not want to give anything away on that plot though. Along the way they of course meet more quirky and really likable characters that they end up meshing with. I think my favorite parts were poor Danny's attempts to propose to Tristan they never quite get to happen. This just makes the end even more fulfilling. I laughed and smiled through this latest escapade!

What a way to end 2023, another five star read by Vawn Cassidy! Tristan and Danny are taking what they think will be a much needed break from dead bodies, ghosts, and defeating Chaos! And what could be more relaxing than a stay at a lovely old castle that they are sure will be ghost free. Really, guys? To no readers' surprise the lovely old castle is chockful of ghosts, livinge their best "lives"! Oh, and there's a murder mystery event that ends with an actual murder. You have living folks and nonliving folks teaming up to figure out who dun it. Dusty is there, of course, trying to celebrate Danny's gift to Tris, that did not happen as planned, as well as riding herd on all the castle's ghosts. We get sweet Ellis, please give us his story. We get to finally meet Danny's family, loved the comeuppance of his brothers, his father's growth, his nephew, Nick. "koff", Aidan?? Tristan is grieving the decline of his beloved father. Oof, the setup for the next book, I know there will be tears but also laughter because Tris finally gets Danny's gift. Let's just say, Chan will be wearing his event planner hat. Standalone? No! Go read all the books!

PS...Bad Decisions strike again!

Danny and Tristan are desperate to have some quality time together after both being extremely busy with work. They finally get time off together and after an hilarious drunken evening find themselves booked into a northern getaway. Once again chaos ensures as they find themselves investigating a real murder on the night of a murder mystery dinner. Chaos being the fellow guests and the resident hotel ghosts endeavouring to assist Danny and Tristan as much as possible and Danny’s attempts at proposing to Tristan being constantly thwarted.
Of course there’s plenty of hilarity, an intriguing whodunnit, some family angst for Danny and Tristan, sweet and steamy times, the worlds most sunshiny side character in Ellis and, after many failed attempts, a proposal!
We are also given a glimpse of what’s next in store for Danny, Tristan and the quirky characters that make up their found family and that had definitely got me intrigued.
